Mexican Futbol Rapido National Team Announced
Genoni Martinez, Byron Alvarez, coach Rene Ortiz lead Mexico into Montreal

June 10 - On Monday Canada threw down the gauntlet announcing a veteran roster for the upcoming Circuito Mundial 2008 in Montreal June 28 to July 1. On Tuesday Mexico countered by announcing a star-studded lineup of their own.

Six-time indoor soccer Defender of the Year Genoni Martinez and Byron Alvarez headline a roster that consists of seven players from this year’s MISL runner-up Monterrey La Raza.  Alvarez lead all scorers in the 2008 playoffs.  In all, nine of the 12 players on Mexico’s Futbol Rapido National Team have played professional arena soccer in the United States.

Between the pipes, Mexico coach Rene Ortiz selected Juan De la O, who was a two-time Goalkeeper of the Year in the CISL. Mexico won the Indoor Soccer World Cup as the host team in 1997.
