Waza FC wins PASL International Crown
Anthony Santilli Named MVP

The teams were in four groups of three and completed round robin play, and the round of sixteen on Friday. The four group winners: Albuquerque Asylum FC (Rocky Mountain Champions), New York Shockers (New England Champions), Kansas City Kings (Midwest Champions), and Waza FC (Great Lakes Champion) all advanced to Saturday’s quarter finals, while the other eight played a round of 16 elimination match to see who would move on to the quarter finals. In elimination round games: The Mid-Atlantic Division runner-up Winchester Impact defated the Southeast Champion Performance FC 13-8, Monterrey Tech of Mexico defeated the Northwest Champion Wentcheee Fire 13-4, the at large bid Maryland Tigers beat the Great Lakes runner up Quantum FC 13-9, and the host team Fredericksburg FC squeaked by the South Central Champion Arlington Magic 3-2 in a shootout.

The first quarter final match on Saturday had the Asylum stopping the Winchester Impact 12-6. Then Monterrey Tech sent the NY Shockers packing with a 16-9 win. Fredericksburg FC finally found their rhythm and stopped the KC Kings hopes with an 11-6 victory. The Waza FC barely slipped by the upstart Maryland Tigers 8-5.

The semi finals featured the Asylum against Monterrey Tech of Mexico. It was a very evenly matched game, but the Asylum’s fitness and physical play finally wore down Monterrey Tech. The Asylum moved into the finals with an 8-4 victory. The surprise match had Waza FC finding their rhythm and pounding the host Fredeicksburg FC 16-4. It was never a contest as Waza FC held a 12-2 halftime lead disappointing the home town crowd.

Waza moved into the final against the Asylum as the game was billed as "Fit vs Wit." It was the Asylum’s young fit talent against the experienced and savy Waza FC. Waza went on an early tear right out of the gate, scoring on 5 of their first 6 shots, and taking an 11-0 first quarter lead. Waza’s goalkeeper Anthony Santilli stopped 7 quality opportunities by the Asylum to enable Waza to take such a commanding first quarter lead. The Asylum then began to pressure and slowed down Waza to end the half at 13-4. The second half started the way it ended with the Asylum scoring and Waza looking tired. The Asylum closed to 13-8 before Waza finally broke the scoring drought to end the third quarter 15-8. Waza scored early in the fourth to ease the pressure, taking the score to 17-8. The determined Asylum then scored twice to make it a 17-12 game, and forced Waza to take a timeout. Waza then started slowing the game and playing keep away from the Asylum. The Asylum continued to pressure, but Waza’s experience kept them cool, and took the steam out of the Asylum’s charge. Waza took advantage of the Asylum’s pressure to score two goals at the end making the final score 21-12.
