PASL Weekly - Week 5
Juggernaut!
Stockton showing no mercy in early season games
Stockton showing no mercy in early season games

11/25/08 - The Stockton Cougars have been the PASL-Pro’s bully on the playground in the early part of the season, amassing an incredible 40 goals in three wins, including back-to-back 15 goal performances against Wenatchee and Denver.

There is some hope of slowing down the Stockton machine.  Greg Howes and Evan McNeley were placed on the inactive list, but the Cougars opponents will still have to deal with Bernie Lilavois, Brian Farber, Majell Aterado, and Aaron Susi.

In Saturday’s win over Denver, Stockton got three hat tricks, one each from Aterado, Lilavois, and Ato Leone.

PASL-Pro League Action

The Denver Dynamite lost their first game under Head Coach Chris Handsor, 15-5 to the Cougars, Handsor’s old team.  A new rivalry was born as the game was marked by chippy play and three red cards.

The Edmonton Drillers made their season debut and rallied from a 6-4 deficit to beat the Calgary United 7-6 in overtime.  It was the first overtime game of the season.

The Detroit Waza survived a bus breakdown, but could not survive their match against 1790 Cincinnati, ending up on the wrong end of a 9-8 nailbiter. Shawn Rockey had two goals and three assists.

KICK STARTERS - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro

Majell Aterado, Stockton Cougars
Aterado raised eyebrows as a late season addition last year and has come into his own this year with five goals and three assists in three games, including a hat trick Saturday against Denver. The speedy 27 year old Hawaiian has been a spark plug for the Cougars offense.

Bernie Lilavois, Stockton Cougars
With the signing of Greg Howes and an exciting young supporting cast, the 38 year old player/coach hasn’t been getting a lot of attention this year. But Bernie "the Bolt" has been striking often with six goals and six assists in three games and still had time to pace the USNAST to the finals in the Torneo Internacional de Futbol Rapido Monterrey 2008.

Shawn Rockey, 1790 Cincinnati
The USNAST midfielder and former Cincinnati Riverhawks and Cincinnati Excite player had two goals and three assists to lead 1790 over the Detroit Waza.  Rockey also accounted for the game-winning goal to keep Waza winless at 0-4.

The Week Ahead

Wenatchee hits the road for the first time for a double-dip at Denver and Colorado on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.  Denver and Wenatchee are still smarting from giving up 15 goals each against Stockton and will see what they can do against each other.

On Friday and Saturday Calgary invades St. Louis and Texas in another PASL-Pro/CMISL matchup.  United got the better of their PASL-Pro rivals in the first clash, taking a weekend sweep from Denver in Calgary.
