10/31/11 - The newest PASL team, the Turlock Express, is like the Little Engine that Could. Representing the smallest market in the league, the Express have turned professional after playing since 2004 in the PASL-Premier.
Filling a void left by the departure of the California Cougars, the Express will bring professional arena soccer back to Turlock Indoor Soccer, where the Cougars, themselves played several home games during the 2009/10 season.
Things are starting to fall into place. The website is nearing completion and improvements to the arena are being completed as the team prepares for its first game on November 4.
Turlock announced the signings of Jorge Quiroz, Uriel Robledo, and Juan Flores.
Robledo and Flores both came up with the Express through the PASL-Premier before turning pro with the Cougars.
Robledo was one of the Cougars most dependable scorers with 26 goals and 14 assists in 28 games over the last three PASL seasons.
Flores was a rookie last year and had one goal and four assists in just six games, but figures to make more of a contribution this season.
Quiroz has been a fixture in the North American Championships with Tigres Dorado Oaxaca and Sidekicks Mexico of the Liga Mexicana Futbol Rapido. He has also represented his country on the Mexican National Futbol Rapido Team.
Head Coach Arturo Pulido seized the opportunity to take the Express to the pro ranks. "I am excited to be able to take the Express to the next level," said Pulido, "while keeping professional arena soccer alive in the region."
"The Turlock Express have a long established history in the PASL-Premier," said PASL Commissioner Kevin Milliken. "I want to thank and congratulate Art for reaching this milestone."
The home schedule opens with back-to-back games Friday Novemebr 4th and Saturday November 5th at 7:35pm against the Tacoma Stars. Tickets are on sale now at Turlock Indoor Soccer, $10 per person and $15 for both games. For more information contact us at (209) 634-5181.
