La Cabana Thrills Crowd with Impressive Win

5/15/09 - LINDSAY, Calif. –McDermont Field House hosted its first ever PASL exhibition soccer game tonight with Mexican Baja Division Champions La Cabaña.  The visitors from Tijuana, Mexico beat McDermont’s teams Sequoia FC 6-1 in the first half and V.C. United 5-0 in the second half.  Edgar Rivas (#9) from La Cabaña was the man of the match, scoring a hat trick on the evening, one goal against Sequoia FC and two against V.C. United.  Eduardo Velez (#16) and Fernando Gomez (#13) each added a pair of goals as La Cabaña dominated play throughout the night.  Jorge Gutierrez (#18) scored the lone goal for Sequoia FC, the first goal in franchise history.

The night began was stirring renditions of the Mexican & American national anthems, followed by the intense action on the field.  The Little Caesar Mascot attended the event and helped the McDermont Cheer Squad throw out t-shirts, Frisbees and beach balls to the excited fans.  Several fans in attendance participated in the Kick-for-McDermont Cash Card events on the field.

Sequoia FC officially begins PASL league play tomorrow night (May 16) in Las Vegas as they take on the Knights at 6:00 p.m.  V.C. United travels to Las Vegas next week (May 23) for their first league game.  The next home game will be Saturday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m., when the hometown rivalry kicks off between Sequoia FC & V.C. United.
