Sequoia FC Wins the Inaugural Superclasico Cup

LINDSAY, Calif. –Sequoia FC defeated its hometown rival V.C. United Saturday night 7-3 at McDermont Field House in the first ever Superclasico Cup. Captain Eddie Gutierrez (#18) was honored as Man of the Match, scoring a hat trick to lead Sequoia FC to victory. Gutierrez opened the scoring five minutes into the contest giving Sequoia an early 1-0 lead. V.C. United Captain Andy Ayers (#6) leveled the game at 1-1 with an excellent strike midway through the opening quarter. Chuy Gutierrez (#15) gave V.C. United a 2-1 lead with seconds remaining in the first quarter with a power-play goal. United had the momentum until Sequoia scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter to take control of the match. Sequoia maintained control during the second half en route to their first victory in PASL play, improving their record to 1-1. V.C. United falls to 0-2 on the season. Noel Mendoza (#12) scored a pair of goals for Sequoia and Chuy Gutierrez (#15) finished with two goals for United.
V.C. United remains at home next week to take on La Cabaña from Tijuana, Mexico on Saturday June 6 at 7:00 p.m. La Cabaña returns for a second time to Lindsay on June 6 for 2-for-1 Admission Night at McDermont Field House ($4.50 admission price is 2-for-1 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.) Sequoia FC makes its second road trip of the season, heading down to San Diego on June 6 for a doubleheader against the Fusion at 5:00 p.m. and the Crew at 7:30 p.m.
