Sequoia FC Earns Spot in National Playoffs

7/16/09 - LINDSAY, Calif. – In its inaugural season, McDermont Field House’s Sequoia FC has secured a trip to the PASL National Championships with one game still remaining in its summer schedule.

A dominant 10-0 performance against Merced Atlas on July 11 improved Sequoia’s record to 5-2 and clinched a berth to compete against the nation’s best Premier Arena soccer teams July 24 – July 26 in Sacramento.

Sequoia FC claimed victory against the Atlas (3-4) at the Merced Indoor Sports Center Saturday, in a physical game with multiple outstanding performances. Goalkeeper Miguel Beltran did not allow a goal, leading Sequoia to its first shutout win. Adam Arteaga led the scoring attack with four first half goals, earning his second consecutive hat trick. Arteaga continued by scoring his fifth (5) goal of the match 12 seconds into the third quarter. Also contributing to the scoring were Eligio Morales (2 goals, 1 assist), Gustavo Serrato (2 goals) and Hugo Lopez (1 goal).

The regular season will wrap up for both Sequoia FC and V.C. United Saturday, July 18, as McDermont Field House in Lindsay will host the San Diego Crew (0-5). V.C. United (2-4) will take on the Crew in the first game of the double header at 5 p.m., followed by Sequoia F.C. matching up with San Diego at 7:30 p.m.
