San Diego Sockers to Headline Beach Soccer Jam
Fans will get look at legends and modern day Sockers

4/10/09 - The expansion San Diego Sockers of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro) announced their participation in this year’s Beach Soccer Jam on April 26 at San Diego’s Fiesta Island.

A Sockers Legends match featuring mainstays like Juli Veee, Jean Willrich, and Brian Quinn will precede the modern day Sockers match.

The Sockers will make their beach debut against Team Canada Beach Soccer, led by Kyle Yamada (Calgary United, CMISL) and Giuliano Oliviero and Marco Terminesi (Milwaukee Wave, XSL).  The Sockers will have familiar names such as Nate Hetherington, Braeden Cloutier, David Beltran, Tony Velazquez, and Miguel "Chiky" Luna on the sand.

"I'm ready to work as hard as I can to bring an exciting game back to the fans of San Diego," enthuses Luna.  "The San Diego Sockers name carries a winning tradition and now it is up to the players to keep the tradition alive.  I just feel honored to be wearing the Sockers jersey."

Sockers staffers will also be stationed to provide information on the upcoming season and to take orders/deposits for season tickets, sell apparel, and have giveaways.

The Beach Soccer Jam was created by Soccer Tournament Specialists, founded by former Sockers Raffi Ruotolo and Antonio Farace, who also played several years with the US National Beach Soccer team.  Beach soccer is a Brazilian sport reinvented in the California style with American athleticism and Latin flair.  This fun and exciting game has seen the biggest soccer stars in the world take their game to the sand.
