The Ohio Vortex swept a doubleheader from the Winnipeg Alliance in front of a season high crowd of about 3,000 at MTS Centre. Ohio won the first game 5-4 and the redux 7-5.
Ohio, who finished the season with a seven game road trip, won their last four games to finish 8-8. Allen Eller had a hat trick in the second game and five different Vortex players scored in the opener.
CINCINNATI 14 DETROIT 4 F
The 1790 Cincinnati Express capped off their second straight perfect home season with a 14-4 win over the Detroit Waza. Cincinnati is now 16-0 all-time at home.
Detroit started the season 5-2, but lost eight of their last nine games. Their defense took a particular turn for the worst lately, allowing 43 goals in their last three games.
John Mellencamp scored four goals for 1790 and MVP candidate Jeff Hughes had three goals and two assists. Dominic Scicluna had a hat trick for Detroit, who managed to rally from 3-0 down to go into the half tied 3-3.
