His defense bolstered the backline of the Howard University Bison from the 2002 through the 2005 seasons. In 2005 he was team captain and was chosen by the Chicago Fire in the 2006 MLS draft of college players. Alex spent the 2006 season playing reserve matches for both the Chicago Fire and DC United
